When one thinks of the name Oracle Corp. an association with social media is not typically made. But of late, Oracle, the world’s 3rd largest enterprise software provider, has been on an acquisition binge of social marketing and media firms. Its latest deal is with San Francisco-based social marketing firm Involver, a 5 year old firm which is provider of SML™ (Social Markup Language), a social media development platform that enables software developers to create customized marketing applications for social media sites and web campaigns. Terms of the deal were not disclosed by either company, and Oracle and Involver will continue to operate independently until the deal formally closes sometime in the summer of 2012.

By Oracle acquiring Involver, the firm is expected to leverage its massive assets and base of 380,000 customers and create cloud-based social platforms across marketing, sales and service touchpoints.

Oracle makes hardware equipment and software applications for data centers, including servers and storage, to database and middleware. Over the past 3 month period, Oracle, which has a Market Cap of 140.69B, also announced deals for Vitrue, a social media engagement service, and Collective Intellect, a social media analytics company.
